Making Change Can Be Hard

It can be frustrating to feel like you can’t move forward or make changes in life because you feel so stuck, stagnant or blocked.
Figuring out what to make for dinner or how to make time for a haircut, is hard enough, let alone making bigger life changes, that would ultimately bring you joy.


  • Have you ever started working on a new resume but end up bingeing on Netflix instead?


  • Are you so busy being taking care of others that you have no energy left for yourself?


  • Maybe you spend all your free time researching something new but never use that information for anything productive.


It’s important to know that this may be more about what is happening inside you and less about external factors.
Being human can be hard and we all have experienced difficulties, traumas or challenges. This can be very dysregulating to your nervous system.


This may be the reason you feel like you never get anywhere despite your best efforts.


I remember, very well, the day I realized that my overwhelm and tiredness were in fact the trauma response “freeze.”  


It was as if a lightbulb went off inside me and everything changed. Now I had the language to understand what was truly at the heart of my overwhelm. Being clear about this, naming it, helped to get me moving again.

Trauma responses might look like:
  • Freeze…overwhelm, tiredness, avoidance.
  • Fight…over researching, never sitting still, doing or giving all the time.
  • Flight…avoidance, bingeing netflix, making too many plans.
  • Faun…putting others first, people pleasing, abandoning your own needs.
Can you relate to any of the above?

  • When we look at things through this lens we can see that avoiding doing things, for example, can be a symptom that may mean you are in a trauma response or that your nervous system is dysregulated.


  • On the surface, general feelings of being stuck or not knowing what to do, can be the first signs that something inside us needs care.


  • Sometimes you need help to translate the messages your energy body is giving you, in order to heal.

  • What are some things you can do today to begin to shift your awareness?

Once you know what is holding you back, tying up your energy or keeping you from moving forward you can begin to address the issue and move through the blockages.

By clearing what's in your way you can move confidently toward your dreams and goals.
