Seasonal rituals & wisdom for the earth year.
It's time for the New Year's tidings and ringing in the new... ...and like an exhale releasing the old.. The anticipation for the New Year and all it may hold is palpable. Anything is possible. Beautiful tables are set for feasts of savory and sweet, places are set for community and glass goblets are filled with golden bubbles. Altars are made fresh with evergreens and juniper incense. Crystals are given cleansing baths under the pale winter moon. There is an air of expectation. A vast potential enfolds us and ripples out in all directions. Who do we want to be this year, what adventures will unfold, what beauty will we see, what love will we embrace? This is a potent and powerful time, it is a space outside of time, a between time. The veils are thin between the worlds, now as in October. Prayers and magic have a safe and accepted place for formation and manifestation. Releasing the old and stepping into the new is a little easier. We feel this rich energy flowing through society at large with New Year's resolutions and new commitments and promises to make our lives better. A New Year's Ritual for Forgiveness Forgiveness. It is powerful. It is important. It is freeing. There are many things and people that we feel weigh us down. There are things we carry that keep us from shining our brightest light. Consider this an invitation...... what if that burden were lifted, what if you were free of replaying old scenarios over and over, what if you had more room inside you for love, laughter, light, connection....what if? Take this time, this precious and potent time to do some discovery inside yourself . Let yourself be supported and nourished by this flow of energy as you step across the threshold into the New Year. Create some magic and fresh space for your dreams and desires. What you will need: -A candle -Pen -Journal -A soft scarf -Forgiveness Tea (Go here for the recipe)and local honey to taste -ONE of the following: outdoor fire (a grill works great for this too), moving body of water, scissors, earth. The Ritual: Brew your tea by boiling water. While the water is boiling, let your energy settle and place your hands over your heart. Feel your heart, steady and strong. Feel the sacred design of you as you imagine your blood pulsing through your body. Turn off the heat and add the fresh basil, dried hyssop and dried organic roses to the water. Let the tea steep for 10 minutes. Strain and pour into your favorite mug and sweeten to taste with the honey. Find a quiet and safe place for reflection. Get comfortable. Lay your pen and journal in front of you. Take a sip of your tea. Take three deep and full breaths. Light your candle while feeling the pulsing love and sacred essence that is you. Let it emanate out in all directions. Wrap your scarf around you as a symbol of the vast comforting presence of the universe and mother earth. Close your eyes and feel the soft sweetness as it enfolds you. Take a sip of your tea. Let its warmth and the herbs infuse your insides. Feel the shift as your spirit and the spirit of the plants combine. Pick up your pen and journal. Imagine that both are ancient and secret magical instruments. Imagine that they too have a pulse and energy flow. Write the words: I FORGIVE at the top of the page. Now make a list, and take a breath, of all the people, places, things, animals, situations, corporations, entities, and so on that you can think of, to forgive. If your pen hesitates, write it down anyway. Write down the ones you are not certain about. Write it all down. Sip your tea and take your time. Let yourself feel. If anything feels overwhelming, connect to the loving presence of your scarf around your shoulders and what it represents. Let yourself cry if you need to. Remember you are cleansing, you are releasing, you are freeing yourself. When you are almost done, write your own name on the list. Then write down anything else that arises inside you, that you need to forgive yourself for. Do this well. When your list is complete, tear it out, drink your tea and blow out your candle. Go outside with your list and take it to the fire, running water or earth. Burn the paper/cut it into little pieces/ and put it in the river or bury it. Give it to the earth, the fairies, the nature and plant spirits. Let it all go. FORGIVE Do this with LOVE When this is complete. Take three more breaths. Notice the lightness that surrounds you. Feel the love pouring into the places that are now empty. Close your eyes and place your hands over your heart. Connect to yourself. Feel forgiveness coursing through your veins. Feel how it mingles with love inside you. You are free. You are powerful. You are important. With all my love and wishing you a blessed 2016,
